When Steph Curry thinks of toning, the first thing that comes to mind is “low weight, high reps.” But thanks to his wife Ayesha, founder of Sweet July Skin, the word has taken on a whole new (beauty-oriented) meaning. While the Warriors superstar jokes that wearing a spa band makes him feel like a Ninja Turtle, trying out Ayesha’s Sweet July line has opened his eyes to the joys of a thorough skin-care routine. “I feel refreshed, I feel primed, I feel toned,” he says.
On a recent morning, the power couple traded the Golden State for the Big Apple—and brought Vogue along as they prepped their skin for the jam-packed day ahead. The two tried out Sweet July's Pava Exfoliating Cleanser, which Steph exclaims, “smells delicious,” and makes his skin feel “light and airy.” “Do you feel that cool beachy breeze?” Ayesha asked of his freshly exfoliated face. Steph, who recently won the American Century Championship celebrity golf tournament, jokes that he didn’t properly prepare his skin for the occasion. “Now he knows for next year,” Ayesha says. “Exfoliate before the final round,” Steph adds.
Since they have a hectic day ahead, Ayesha breaks out the under-eye masks before they hydrate. “He has no idea what I’m doing, and that’s just the way I like it,” she jokes as she places them on his face. Steph applies his Irie Power Face Oil flawlessly—save for some eye-mask slippage. “Oh you look so glowy,” Ayesha says. “It must be the turmeric root in there.”
One can’t help but smile at Steph’s childlike wonder for the tools. “Now your favorite part,” Ayesha says, breaking out the gua sha. “The thing you’ve been asking for this whole time.” Though she helps Steph with the gua sha at first, he’s a natural in no time, running it across his face like one of the pros.
Of course, no morning skincare routine is complete without sun protection: for this, Ayesha opts for Black Girl Sunscreen. “Now you’re talkin’ my language,” Steph says as he rubs it in. But before they head out the door, Ayesha presents Steph with a gorgeous fruit platter—with some strings attached. “Tell me which fruits are a part of the line,” she says.
